The Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce has 178 businesses registered for its annual Business Expo today.
That’s more than have been at any previous expo. Linda Nardin, the chamber’s marketing manager, said 136 businesses set up at last year’s event.
The growth “is a super vote of confidence, we believe, for this area, that businesses are actively involved and want to participate,” Nardin said.
Several area businesses, including Centra Health and the Jefferson CPA Group, are registered for the trade show in Downtown Moneta.
Additional businesses are coming from other parts of Virginia and other states.
“It’s really an opportunity for the public to come out and meet with businesses, and for the businesses to network among themselves,” Nardin said. “It’s really in support of the economic vitality of this region.”
The expo’s hours have been extended this year to allow people to come after working hours, Nardin said.
