New scam leaves messages on cell phones about credit cards

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A new telephone scam aims to collect credit card numbers from unsuspecting victims.

Messages claiming to be from “Beacon Hill Credit Union” are being left on cell phones asking recipients to call an 800 number about a problem with a credit card.

The 800 number then directs the caller to enter his or her credit card number and personal identification number (PIN).

A search of businesses turns up no credit unions by that name in the area.

The Better Business Bureau of Western Virginia stresses that people should be wary of unsolicited phone calls claiming to be from banks and should never give personal or credit card information over the phone.
