Areva eyes 2013 to begin work on enrichment plant

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Officials for the French nuclear power company Areva are hoping to begin construction on a $3 billion uranium enrichment plant in eastern Idaho next year.

Areva had planned to break ground on the site near Idaho Falls this year, but backed off after announcing late last year the company needed to return to profitability after a dismal 2011.

Areva vice president Bob Poyser told the Post Register (http://bit.ly/ybPAT8 ) the company now hopes to begin construction of the Eagle Rock Enrichment Facility in 2013.

Poyser insists the project is moving forward, and he says company officials are looking for new investors.

Last fall, federal regulators awarded Areva a license to build and operate the facility. The company has also received a $2 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy.
