The Fox network is going yellow this week to mark the 20th anniversary of "The Simpsons," which celebrates its 450th episode Sunday.
Among the items getting a yellow tint, according to Fox, are the on-air graphics during prime time as well as Fox promos, social networks – even some local news anchors' neckties at Fox-owned stations.
Those lovable yellow-skinned residents of Springfield have become stars on the longest- running animated comedy in the history of television.
Their creator, Matt Groening, says they could easily go another 20 years. Long live Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie.
To mark the milestone, a one-hour "The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: in 3-D! On Ice" will follow the 450th episode at 9 p.m. Sunday.
This salute with a gag title is directed by filmmaker Morgan Spurlock ("Super Size Me") and features interviews with the show's creators, the actors who voice the characters and some of the series' most ardent fans. Included is a collector who has more than 30,000 artifacts related to the series. And there's a fan who has a tattoo of every "Tree House of Horror" character on his body.
In a telephone interview, Spurlock said "The Simpsons" has been poking fun at our culture for generations, appealing to the smart alecks. "It makes you laugh and think at the same thing," he noted.
