Hi, I’m Puffin, the office cat.
I’ve worked at the Lynchburg Humane Society for 10 years. Actually, I pretty much run the place. My duties are varied, and I’m incredibly important.
I’m especially busy on Wednesdays when I inspect the pet-filled crates being readied for the spay/neuter clinic. Those animal-children need to be reassured that they will come back the next day and that everything will be just fine.
I occasionally need to remind a shelter worker to take her break, which I accomplish by plopping down for a nap on her paperwork. Besides, I have more room to stretch if I can make her go away for a while.
I am a friendly, gentle feline, but that doesn’t stop me from putting the occasional rambunctious puppy in his place. I let the others know who’s in charge with presence and attitude. Like I said, it’s my job.
In July, I’m celebrating my 12th birthday, and it’s high time I had proper attention. On July 26, do stop by the LHS Adoption Center at 3305 Naval Reserve Road between noon and 4 p.m., and join in celebrating me! You can have a look at my shelter operation and meet all my companions, both four-land two-legged.
Maybe you’d like to think about adopting one of my friends. Goodness knows we have oodles of fluffy kittens of all colors and kinds around here right now. Oh, to be young again … .
We also have some especially cute adult dogs and bouncy puppies. Don’t tell the silly, yappy puppies I said so.
I, of course, am not adoptable. The place would fall apart if I weren’t here.
Don’t forget, we’ll have cake and punch and, of course, kibbles.
Sandra Boydston, development director of the Lynchburg Humane Society, channels Puffin when Puffin so directs.
