Ask Karen: What is the best product for age spots?

»  Comments | Post a Comment

QUESTION: What is the best product for age spots, or liver spots as they are sometimes called?
ANSWER: We all know how important sunscreen is, but we may not apply and re-apply as much as we should. Over time, some of us begin to notice the toll the sun has taken on our skin.
We featured different products for age spots in a past “10 On Your Side Consumer Watch” from Consumer Reports. “Good Housekeeping” found two products that can help fade the dark spots that form from sun damage.
G.H. Testers found that Murad Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel did a good job. It has two ingredients that are used by dermatologists, including hydroquinone, a bleaching compound and glycolic acid.
Good Skin All Bright Spot Treatment also tested well. G.H. Testers said that it did not lighten as much as the Murad product but that it still showed results.
Laser treatments were the third option that was recommended for results.
