TRBC to host men’s weekend conference
Thomas Road Baptist Church will host the 2008 Wildfire Weekend, where sports and spirituality come together.

The two-day event on Oct. 10 and 11 features speakers who include NASCAR’s Darrell Waltrip and Rick Hendrick, the NFL’s Dexter Manley, football hall of famers Darrell Green and Art Monk, major league baseball’s Randy Tomlin and Dave Dravecky, and Atlanta Braves pitcher Blaine Boyer.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there will be hunting and fishing workshops with Willie Robertson (Duck Commander), Phil Robertson (Buck Commander), Tom Stuckey (grand national turkey calling champion), Brock Ray (professional outdoorsman and TV/radio personality) and Stacey West (hunting dog expert).

Popular speaker and best-selling author, Bishop Wellington Boone, founder and bishop of The Father’s House Church in Atlanta, and former Vietnam Green Beret and Bronze Star recipient, Stu Weber, pastor of Good Shepherd Community Church in Oregon, will present challenging and motivating seminars for conference attendees.

The event also includes a car show, bike ride and Texas-style BBQ dinner ($10 per meal ticket).

Tickets are available for $39 until Oct. 6; The regular ticket price is $69. Students pay $14.50.

CBC to sponsor Team Impact program
Calvary Baptist Church is bringing Team Impact, a team of evangelizing strong men, to Altavista next weekend.

The team, whose members bend steel and talk about God, will perform at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10, 11 and 12 in the Booker Building in English Park on Third Street.

The performances are free and open to all. The church will also hold its Sunday worship service, beginning at 10:30 a.m., in the Booker Building.

UMCs to hold all-in-one event
The Welcoming Service for the new district superintendent for Lynchburg area Methodist churches, the United Methodist Churches district conference and a block party will take place at Park View United Methodist Church. The event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

The service welcomes Larry Davies, the new superintendent, while the district conference celebrates the ministry at the district’s 91 churches.

Lynchburg Mayor Joan Foster and Campbell County Supervisor Charles Falwell will be on hand. Steve Jennings of Teens Opposing Poverty will deliver the mission word, and his TOP team will conduct a survey.

The block party, with music, kid’s games and treats, follows the service.

World-class harpist to play at Fort Hill UMC
Greg Buchanan, described as a world-class harpist, will play at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Fort Hill United Methodist Church.

The free concert at the 106 Oakridge Blvd. Church is open to all. A staffed nursery is available.
