New Folk winner to play in Bedford
Jonathan Byrd will headline the latest Friends of the Bedford Public Library concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Chapel Hill, N.C., native grew up singing in church, where his father preached and his mother played piano. After a four-year stint in the Navy, he returned to North Carolina to play in rock bands. His writing began to change after a friend invited him to an old-time fiddle festival in the mountains of Virginia. He released his first album, “Wildflowers,” in late 2001 and followed it up with 2003’s “The Waitress,” the same year he won the prestigious New Folk competition in Kerrville, Texas.
The concert has a suggested donation of $10.
