Tree of Life gets the big helping hand

The Rev. Mike Dodson, pastor of Tree of Life Ministries, says their recent acquisition of the former St. John’s Nursing Home is “nothing short of a miracle.”

Two area businessmen, who wish to remain anonymous, donated the Campbell Avenue nursing home to Tree of Life in early January.

The plan is to turn it into a community outreach center called The T.R.E.E. House, which stands for transition, restoration, enrichment and encouragement. It will offer services like drug and alcohol rehabilitation, transitional housing for individuals and families, and, possibly, hospice care.

Dodson says they’d actually tried to purchase the facility a few years ago with the same goals in mind, but it didn’t work out.

“The vision was clear, but it looked like it wasn’t going to happen.”

When the men heard about what Tree of Life wanted to do with the space, they were quick to make the donation, Dodson says.

“It was unbelievable,” he says. “It was just perfect timing.”

Renovations have already begun, and he says they expect the project to take at least six months.
