INFO: The Chinese-American siblings — violinists Timothy and Janet, violist Phillip and cellist David — have earned a reputation for making a connection between chamber music and other art forms. Examples include their work with the Turtle Island Quartet and with folk musician Mike Seeger, and Hyperscore, an online graphic compositional application that allows amateurs as well as professional musicians to compose using a personal computer. The quartet’s Sweet Briar program will include classical works, such as Giacomo Puccini’s “Il Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums)” and Claude Debussy’s “Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10,” plus selections from their new recording, “Dim Sum.”

Class act at the Legacy Museum
The Legacy Museum of African American History has begun offering classes in hip-hop dance and in poetry for young people.
On Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, the museum will host a youth poetry workshop from 5 to 6 p.m. in its Activity Center at 415 Monroe St. The workshop is appropriate for ages 7 and older, and there is a $1 donation per class requested for materials.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, there are hip-hop dance classes being offered, thanks to the Dance Theatre of Lynchburg.
The Jan. 21 and Jan. 28 classes meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., while the Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 classes meet from 4 to 5 p.m. All classes are $2 per class and take place in the Activity Center.
