The Sedalia Center is hosting its first fundraiser this weekend, featuring the tunes of The Worx.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Food, beer and drinks will be available for sale, and tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.
The proceeds of the event will go toward the Big Island facility’s improvement projects (past upgrades include the construction of an outdoor pavilion, the addition of ceiling fans, and stage and concession stand upgrades). The Sedalia Center, a non profit, was founded in 1989 and is dedicated to promoting the visual and performing arts in Central Virginia.

Heritage Festival in Naruna
The Campbell County Heritage Festival makes its debut on Aug. 15 at the William Campbell High School and community park in Naruna.
The free festival, set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will honor the county’s heritage through events like historical re-enactments, an antique tractor and car show, sheep herding demonstrations, tobacco tying, apple butter and cider making and craft demonstrations. There will also be live music and children’s activities.
After the festival, there will be a benefit concert by The Dazzlers, a 1950s rockabilly band from the Brookneal area.
Proceeds from the benefit concert will go toward the development of an amphitheater at the community park. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

N.C. singer makes stop
North Carolina-based singer/songwriter Martha Bassett will play at the White Hart on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Bassett’s music was featured in the 2005 Sony Classics film Junebug, expanding her following well beyond North Carolina. Since then, Bassett has opened for Lyle Lovett, played Merlefest and is currently touring the east coast to promote her new album, “Sinner’s Prayer.”
Her live shows include a mix of original work and jazz, country, traditional and rock standards.
