French guitarist Philippe Bertaud, who has played all over the country, as well as in Europe, Canada, Brazil and Mexico, will come to Altavista June 26 for a benefit concert for Frannie’s House, a safe house for victims of domestic violence.
His appearance is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Parish Hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 1010 Broad St. The concert is free, but a love offering will be collected for the shelter, which has nearly $185,000 raised and pledged so far for the $300,000 project.
Bertaud will also conduct a master class, open to any serious guitarist, at 4 p.m. the same day. Reservations are required; please call (434) 369-4641.
Opry member to play at Chatham church
George Hamilton IV, a member of The Grand Ole Opry for almost 50 years, will present a concert at Watson Memorial United Methodist Church in Chatham June 26.
The concert, scheduled to start at 8 p.m., will feature country gospel songs.
His first hit single, recorded in 1956, was “A Rose and a Baby Ruth.” Other hits have included “Before This Day Ends,” “Truck Driving Man,” “She’s a Little Bit Country” and his biggest, “Abilene.” Hamilton has appeared in movies and hosted television shows, and has released more than 100 albums
Hamilton’s concert at Watson Memorial is free, but a love offering will be taken, with half of the donations going to Stop Hunger Now and the other half to the Pittsylvania County Food Bank.

Church offers pre-school summer camp
Heritage United Methodist Pre-school will have Camp SonShine two weeks this summer.
The first camp, called Tremendous Tree Week, is scheduled for July 13 to 17. The second, called Splish! Splash! Ocean Week, is set for July 20 to 24.
Camp hours are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The pre-school is located at 582 Leesville Road. The cost for the camp for children ages 2 1/2 to 6 is $60 per week.
