The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats are bringing their elaborate stage show to the Academy of Fine Arts this weekend. The show, set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Warehouse Theatre, will feature Chinese acrobatics, balancing feats, martial arts displays and much more.
Training to become a member of the tour company begins at an early age for these children. For most, it’s a family affair — they go from watching their parents contort, leap and sail through the air to eventually doing it themselves.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and $15 for students. For more information, call (434) 846-TIXX or visit www.AcademyFineArts.com.
White Hart welcomes Scottish singer
Scotsman Jim Malcolm, former lead singer of Old Blind Dogs and one of the main singers in PBS’s “Highland Heartbeat,” is scheduled to play the White Hart at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
He is performing the second half of all his concerts this year as a tribute to Robert Burns, to celebrate the poet’s 250th birthday. It’s a highly comic but also deeply musical celebration of his life and songs, done in costume.
Malcolm will open the show with songs from his latest CD, “The First Cold Day.”
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For more information, call (434) 455-1659 or visit www.inklingswhitehart.com.
