Some may chew it to curb food cravings but most of us were probably told at some point that swallowing gum is dangerous.
That's this weeks myth and it is false.
Dr. Mark Greenawald with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine says "A lot of people think that if they swallow gum they have been told that it might get stuck in their intestines or it might expand if it gets into their intestines. That's not the case at all 13:04:25 it is not absorbed by the body or digested by the body."
While we were on the topic of sweets we checked on a second myth.
Does sugar really makes kids hyper?
This one is also false.
Dr. Greenawald says, "Some think because one eats candy blood sugar goes up more quickly that that can cause them to be a little bit more energetic but sugar in itself.. there is no reason to think that that causes hyperactivity per say hyperactivity is actually a disorder like attention deficit disorder that should be diagnosed by the physician."
