Dr. Joseph Moskal, Carilion Clinic Orthopaedics says,"I think that that is true. Looking at the numbers from the CDC, approximately 50 million people in this country have seen a physician for Arthritis, so that's one in five individuals in this country have seen a physician for osteoarthritis. And that's just talking about people between the...somebody over 18. There are 300,000 children with arthritis, so over 20-percent of people in this country have seen a physician for Arthritis so I'm going to have to say that if it is not the leading cause, it is one of the top causes."
