Salem completes sweep of HillcatsView Video

Chris Hernandez pitched five strong innings and got some outstanding defensive help to lead Salem over Lynchburg, 3-1, on Thursday, giving the Red Sox a three-game sweep of the Hillcats. • Hillcats' opener at Potomac rained out

WOODBRIDGE — For a moment Friday afternoon, it actually looked like the Lynchburg Hillcats and Potomac Nationals would play ball. Several Nationals played long toss in the outfield, and workers at Pfitzner Stadium pulled the tarp back from the infield. But as quickly as that window opened, it slammed shut. Another cloudburst rolled over the stadium, and the downpour was enough to put the already soggy turf out of commission. Within 10 minutes of the heavy rainfall, the game was postponed. The teams will play single games today and Sunday, and Friday’s rainout will be made up sometime during the May 27-29 series between the teams at Pfitzner.
