Lynchburg Police are investigating an early-morning shooting that sent a 15-year-old girl to the hospital.

According to a news release from the police department, the teenager was shot in an altercation that took place around 2 a.m. during a party at a residence on Wise Street in downtown Lynchburg.

Witnesses reported hearing four to five gunshots inside the residence, according to the release.

Police said the girl and a 15-year-old boy, who was hit in the face with a glass bottle, were treated at Lynchburg General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release the names of the victims because they are juveniles.

A 20-year-old man was also hit in the face with a glass bottle, according to police, and an 18-year-old woman was hit on top of the head by a piece of falling glass.

Lynchburg Police are investigating the incident and have not identified any suspects.

I agree whole heartedly that crime is getting worse and more frequent, BUT I go back to the parents. If they did what they should while the child is growing up we would eliminate alot of these crimes. No not all crimes would be stopped but we would greatly reduce the amount. And I do realize we have people out there working two jobs to make ends meet to feed their kids and pay for rent or house payments, and God bless them, but when when will we see what the issue is? It is people having kids when they are not cpable of providing for them. I am not talking about monetary things either. All kids needs guidance, support, discipline and love, and if the parent isnt there how can they provide these?

You know.. I would agree to not blame the police because it’s the first time we have a local as chief of police. But.. when a person calls the police because someone is driving over 70, running stop signs and the dispatcher asks if I got the the license number.
No.. I didn’t.
I was worried about keeping the kids (who just seconds before were playing ball in the street) from coming back.
I and THREE others had a solid description of the car.
No officer came and about 4 minutes later the speeding car came back through (again flying).
What is a citizen to do in this situation? What about renting neighbors selling drugs out the front door and nothing happens after calling the police department many times?
The better police departments try to be proactive instead of reactive. I’m not an officer so what change can I make? And crime is getting more frequent.

Nothing good ever happens at 2am does it? I agree with alot of these posts that these parents need to be held accountable! And please dont blame the police for this one, but it seems in Lynchburg thats all we do! The police should have done this or that, no the parents should have know where their kids are, or that their kids have guns.

Why would a 15 year old be at a party? huh? And just for the folk who have never interacted with teenagers.. THEY LIE.

Heather: Hey mom.. I’m going to kim’s house for New Years.

Kim: Hey mom.. I’m going to Heather’s house for New Years.

We are not in a police state yet BUT..

Downtown police officers.. when they patrol their necks seem to stiffen a bit and have trouble looking left or right while they patrol. Shoot.. the drive thru pharmacy at the end of Grace and Florida Ave. is enough to tell me that much.

At least the police showed up.. try calling the police about a drug sales house downtown. As long as these homes are in downtown or Whiterock then all is alright with Lynchburg.

Where are the adults? Why would 20 year olds be hanging out with 15 year olds? WHY are 15 years olds out at a party at 2 a.m.? The police need to investigate this also! Parents should know where their minor children are at that time of the morning! We wonder why there are so many juvenile deliquents, stories like is is why….... parents not being held accountable.

I saw and heard the whole thing. I believe the kids parents weren’t home. The police went inside the house and said there was blood everywhere in the house, but nobody was inside. An hour before the incident, the police were called to the house for the music being to loud, but the quickly turned the music off and the police left. Then around 2 am i heard the gun shots of a small handgun. I guess the police should have shut the party down when they were first called!?..

A street name is a pretty good reference point!!  They can’t describe where every street is.  Use Google map.

It is so irritating how reporters never give a reference point as to where addresses are. Time and time again I find myself wondering where is this random street they referred to.
