Team White made up some serious ground Sunday night, finishing “The Amazing Race” in fourth place.
As this week’s episode began, Mel and Mike White were in sixth as they left Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.
But the race leveled out as teams got their first clue: take the Trans-Siberian Railway 400 miles to Novosibirsk, Russia. Only one train goes from there to Novosibirsk a day, so everyone wound up together.
“Let the last become first, and let the first become last,” Mike said while waiting in the train station.
“He’s quoting the Bible,” Mel exclaimed, excitedly. “Thank God. It’s a miracle.”
Once they arrived at their destination, teams were met with a detour: “Russian Bride,” which had them driving an unusually tall bride across town to meet her intended groom, or “Russian Snowplow,” in which both team members had to take turns operating a cumbersome snow plow training course.
“I’d rather party with virgin brides than snow plows,” Mike joked as they set out to complete the former.
Mel and Mike ran into some trouble finding the church, where the bride’s intended awaited. But once they found it and played matchmaker, they were given their next clue, which sent them to Siberia’s largest library.
There, they got instructions for the episode’s roadblock, which required one team member to strip down to his or her underwear to run 1.4 miles in Siberia’s winter marathon, “the way only the bravest locals do,” according to host Phil Keoghan.
Mike completed the task for their team, arriving at the pit stop, the Novosibirsk Ballet Opera Theater, in plenty of time to ensure that the Whites remained in the race.

I have really been proud of Mel and Mike on the show. Even though I do live closer to Martinsville. I was not to keen on that couple. Geez, I use to live in the HILL CITY a long time ago. Lynchburg should be proud of what Mike and Mel are doing. Thanks News and Advance for your continued coverage to keep up with their journey. I know no one knows the outcome but Mike and Mel. But lets all hope we are celebrating a great Victory at the end for the 2 of them.
