Almost a week after celebrating an Orange Bowl victory, Virginia Tech Head Football Coach Frank Beamer still can’t stop smiling.

“I’m happy,” Beamer said.  “I’m happy for our football program.  I’m very proud of our players. Our coaches did a great job.“

It was another 10-win season, yet Beamer says this was one of the hardest of his career.

“At times there during the season, media wanted to say one thing and wanted to think this was happening and that was happening within our football team,“ he said.

Even with all the distractions, Beamer says his team kept their eyes on the prize.

“I thought our players did the only thing you can do and be successful in the end, and that is stay together.“

In the end, the team pulled out a record Beamer cannot help but be proud of.

“Week in and week out it was hard, but at the end it was one of the most gratifying seasons I’ve ever been around.“
 
As Beamer looks back on the ups and the downs, he would agree 2008 is certainly something to smile about.
