A few First Friday offerings

First Fridays is slow this month as Lynchburg weathers the height of vacation season and gallery owners prepare fresh shows for the fall. The art trolley is not running, but several galleries will open their doors for a night of art.

The blackwater creek gallery will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. for “Art of Extremity: A Show of Trench Art and Prison Art of the 20th Century.”

— The Lynchburg Art Club
1011 Rivermont Ave.
“Remembering Elliott Twery and a Lifetime of Art” features 62 pieces by the Lynchburg artist, including urban cityscapes, rural landscapes, abstracts, collages and ink drawings. The show will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. for First Friday, with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. for early birds.

“Richard Nickel — Recent Works” will be on display in the Craddock-Terry Gallery from 5:30 to 8 p.m., accompanied by music by Randy and Mike Riley. The exhibit, which debuted in July, features ceramic pieces, installation and paintings that address themes of love, power and absurdity through folk-art inspired imagery.
The Co-Op Gallery will host “Reflections,” a new show spotlighting the work of Gay Tucker, an oil painter known for her impressionistic still-life renderings, and her European landscapes and cityscapes. Tucker has won awards in several juried art shows, including the Purchase Award for the Brand Library Art Exhibit in California.
