ACHIEVEMENTS
Appomattox
- The following Appomattox Elementary School students have been recognized recently on the Reading Safari: Eric Wilson, Keyona Harvey, Hailey Cheatham, Devon Joyner, Heaven Petty, Desmond Jackson, Michael McFadden, Corey Mayberry, Jahnyia Wright, Thomas Hendricks, Xavier Morgan, Michael Tuck, Megan Carr, Peyton Tolley, Brandon Scott, Jurnee Hamlett, Bridgett Mayberry, Joshua Richardson, Mikayla Glover, A’Shanta Robinson, Zenobia Hubbard and Nicholas McDaniel.
Bedford
- Moneta Elementary School took third place in the Teach Yer Creature Division 1 at the Piedmont Regional Odyssey of the Mind Competition held March 14 at Franklin County High School. The team also won an OMer’s Award. Team members included Keagan Tuck, Ian Merritt, Rachel Bishop, Nathan San Juan, Archer Merritt, Kelly Richardson and Shannon Richardson.
- The following Jefferson Forest High School students will represent JF at the state forensics tournament in Harrisonburg: Eric Fesmire (Original Oratory), Graydon Uyeda (Foreign Extemporary) and Robert Grier (Domestic Extemporary).
- Jefferson Forest High School sophomore Liesel Anderson took third place in Individual Websites at the regional History Day competition held May 21.
- The Jefferson Forest High School Debate Team took third place in the Region III competition and will advance to the state competition. The following students qualified: Graydon Uyeda and Chase Sawyer, first, Classic Policy Debate; Catherine Mohr and Stephanie DeRonde, second, Contemporary Policy Debate; Paul Zivick, Lincoln Douglas Debate; and Roxana Hasanat, Student Congress.
Campbell
- The following Tomahawk Elementary School fifth-grade students were named to the All-A Honor Roll: Sung Woo Cho, Callie Moran, Elvis Yang, Daniel Burnett, Jandrito Cedillo, Katherine Druding, Landon Foutz, Alexis Hendricks, Bryan Hogg, Miranda Quel, Brittany Miller, Hannah Moore, Da Eun Ahn, Rachel Murphy, Cameron Roberts, Logan Hoffman, Michael Xu, Tristan Floyd, Danielle Medinger and Adonis Trent.
Lynchburg
- Local filmmaker Keith Lee donated copies of his film, ‘Anne Spencer Revisited’ and its accompanying book to Lynchburg City Schools during a presentation held March 25 at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation. Lee produced and directed the film which consists of dramatic readings of Anne Spencer’s poetry. Spencer, a lifelong Lynchburg resident and the first librarian at Dunbar High School, was a nationally known poet during the Harlem Renaissance.

- The Optimist Club of Lynchburg honored the following Lynchburg City Schools students at the 17th Annual Excellence in Musical Accomplishment Awards Program held March 19: Lauren Kenney of Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation, eighth grade, flute and musical theatre; Brea Marshall of Sandusky Middle School, eighth-grade, clarinet; and Jessica Payne of Linkhorne Middle School, seventh grade, violin.
Private Schools
- The Optimist Club of Lynchburg honored the following private school students at the 17th Annual Excellence in Musical Accomplishment Awards Program held March 19: Trevor Falls of James River Day School, seventh grade, piano and musical theory; Madison O’Donnell of Liberty Christian Academy, seventh grade, choir; and Matilda Sullivan of New Covenant Schools, seventh grade violin.

Appomattox Primary School

- Lynchburg City Schools will hold a job fair for Heritage and E.C. Glass high school seniors, 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, in the auxiliary gym at E.C. Glass High School. Businesses will be on hand to accept resumes and set up interviews. College representatives will also be in attendance. Students must dress in professional attire and bring their resumes.
