ACHIEVEMENTS

Appomattox

- The following Appomattox County High School students were named Appomattox High School FFA officers for the 2009-2010 school year: Mary Beth Wingfield, president, Dani Gaulden, vice president, Carson Baldwin, secretary, Will Gaulden, treasurer, William Lewis, first reporter, Hunter Cheatham, second reporter, Jalen Thomas, sentinel, Julie James, historian, and Clayton Mosley, chaplin.

- Appomattox County High School student Dalton Bennett was recently presented the school’s highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by the Monsanto Company. Bennett, the son of Jim and Annette Bennett of Red House, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience. Bennett has served as FFA chapter vice president and sentinel, was named ACHS Outstanding Agriculture Senior Student, was a multiple year member of the Livestock Show Team, and received the Virginia FFA Southside Area Beef Production Proficiency Award.

Campbell County

Brookville Middle School

- Sept. 24: 21st Century Literacy for Adolescents, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the BMS Library

Rustburg Middle School

- Through Sept. 28: PTA Fundraiser. Prizes awarded to students for selling items. Return all orders to homeroom teacher by Sept. 29.

Lynchburg

Sandusky Middle School

- Sept. 22: Back to School Night, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

- Sept. 23: Book Fair ends

Holy Cross Regional Catholic School

- Sept. 22: Chapel , 7:40 to 8 a.m.

- Sept. 24: Third-grade Retreat

James River Day School

- Sept. 22: Girls in Math, Science and Engineering presentation for middle school girls by Raina Robeva, Math Department Chair, Sweet Briar College, 1 p.m. at JRDS

- Sept. 24: Third-grade field trip to Old City Cemetery; PTO Back-to-School Night, 7 p.m.

- Sept. 29: Kindergarten Family Lunch, noon in the Taylor Media Center.

Liberty Christian Academy

-  Sept. 23: See You at the Pole

-  Sept. 29-Oct. 2: Spirit Week

-  Oct. 24: ‘Night of Tropical Paradise’ auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the LCA Gymnasium. Event begins with silent auction and hors d’oeuvres. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.  To purchase tickets ($15 each), go by the Office of Academy Relations, call 434-592-4935 or email . -  The Bulldog Wrestling Club for boys in grades K-6 will begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 with its first practice and parents meeting. Practices will be on Monday, Tuesday and/or Thursday nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the LU Wrestling Room. The cost is $35 and includes instruction, club T-shirt, use of a team singlet and awards at the end-of-the-year banquet. Timberlake Christian Schools
