Amherst County names new administrator
Lee Lintecum
The Amherst County Board of Supervisors announced Tuesday that Lee Lintecum will serve as the new county administrator.
Lintecum previously served as county administrator for Louisa, Henry and Smyth counties and has more than 27 years of experience in local government administration, according to a news release issued by the board. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Virginia Tech.
Lintecum was chosen from a field of roughly 30 candidates, the release stated.
“Mr. Lintecum has the experience and seems like the type of person that will fit in well with the community,” board chairman Leon Parrish said after the announcement.
Lintecum said he was excited about the position and felt his former experience would be put to good use.
“I have found counties are alike in a lot of ways,” he said.
Rodney Taylor, the former county administrator, resigned in late April. Taylor had been accused of implicating a supervisor in a leak of confidential information involving the criminal investigation of a former county employee.
In recent months, some residents have expressed criticism over the board’s handling of Taylor’s departure.
In a work session Monday, the board voted unanimously to cease a probe into the supposed leak after both the commonwealth’s attorney and state police declined to investigate the matter.
Amherst’s assistant administrator David Proffitt has served as acting county administrator since Taylor’s resignation.
Lintecum’s salary will be $100,000 and his start date is set for Oct. 15.

I don’t believe it. $100,000 a year wasted. Just think of what the “Tourist Director” could have accomplished with that money.
I understand that new signs will be erected at the major entrances to Amherst County.
