Amherst man charged in Saturday shooting

An Amherst County man was arrested after an altercation Saturday that ended with his neighbor shot in the foot, authorities said Wednesday.

Lawrence William Humphreys, 58, of Bobwhite Road, in Amherst County, is being held without bond after the incident, officials with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Authorities said Humphreys shot his neighbor in the foot during the incident.

Humphreys was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The neighbor, whose name was not released, was treated and released from Lynchburg General Hospital.
