Arborists to teach tree care at Appomattox park

Arborists will be on hand on Oct. 24 at Appomattox Court House National Historic Park to offer information to the public about proper tree care, and to work on trees at the park.

The volunteer arborist work-day is sponsored each year by the Virginia Urban Forest Council. The event was held last year at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest in Bedford County.

About a half-dozen arborists will attend, along with some of their volunteers. Most of the work will be on the trees near the visitor center, McLean House, Clover Hill Tavern and Meeks Store.

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located on Virginia 24, about three miles from Appomattox. Entrance fees are $3 per person, or $5 per vehicle. Children 15 and under are free.
