Lynchburg City School Board officially approved the funds to renovate the Fort Hill School in order to place the division’s middle school alternative education programs in the facility.

The project will cost about $692,000 and officials said at Tuesday’s school board meeting bids for the project will likely go out in July, with work beginning in August.

Maintenance to the facility’s exterior has already started. The division completed landscaping and removed the Rivermont School sign, which was left over from the building’s previous occupant.

The school board also approved changing the facility’s name to the Fort Hill Community School.
