Campbell County libraries have a new image, on paper and on the Web.
Tuesday, officials unveiled a new Web site and a logo, both collaborations between public and private partnerships.
The new Web site, http://www.campbellcountylibraries.org, will be cheaper to operate, easier to update and will have more features than the old site, said director Nan Carmack. It will have easy access to the library’s catalog, patron accounts and librarian-vetted resources.
One unique thing about the site is it’s the first of its kind in Virginia, Carmack said. The site is designed through an Oregon-based open-source project to improve library Web sites for rural areas. Several localities in Virginia are developing similar sites that will be hosted by the Library of Virginia, but Campbell’s is the first to go online.
The new logo was created by Lynchburg College graphic arts students through the Donovan Media Development Center, which works with area nonprofits to produce designs needed for publications, Carmack said.
Carmack said she approached the program in the winter and students took the project on in late spring. The goal was for the image to incorporate the agricultural heritage of Campbell County and technology.
“The main overarching benefit I see is these contributions from private/public collaborations,” Carmack said. “These kinds of partnerships enable us to maximize our revenues and for the benefit of the citizen or taxpayer or customer.”
