Centra Board of Directors chairman Rodger Fauber has received the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association’s 2008 Excellence in Governance Award.

The award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to healthcare through their leadership and service.

“My active participation in board service has given me the opportunity to give back to the community and to help improve the lives of friends and neighbors,” Fauber said in a statement. “I am thankful to be able to serve with an outstanding health care team.”

Fauber, who has been chairman for 12 years, was at the board’s helm as Centra started its joint partnership with Carilion regarding Bedford Memorial Hospital and its partnership with Halifax Regional Hospital to improve cardiac care.

Also during his tenure Centra achieved Magnet certification and received numerous state and national awards for quality, efficiency and technology.
