A fire destroyed this home in Brentwood Mobile Home Park’s Lot No. 8 in Lynchburg.
Fire ripped through an abandoned mobile home off Lakeside Drive on Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the Brentwood Mobile Home Park at 2301 Lakeside Drive just before 10 a.m. after reports of heavy smoke billowing from a trailer, said Battalion Chief Ninette Heath of the Lynchburg Fire Department.
The mobile home on lot 7 had been standing empty but had two squatters living inside, Heath said. Fire officials believe that a heat source was left on, which ignited the mobile home.
The fire started in the living room area, but the destruction is such that fire investigators may not able to tell exactly what sparked the blaze.
No one was inside at the time.
Heath said there was no electricity or gas hooked up to the house.
The mobile home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, she said. It took them about 10 minutes to get the fire under control.
“In the older trailers, it don’t take but seconds,” she said. “The plyboard and compressed wood doesn’t stand up to fire.”
The fire did not spread to the neighboring abandoned mobile home or the woods behind it.
