Heritage High School marching band hopes it’s not playing blues
Members of the Heritage High School band — including Marcus Stewart, shown above, playing the trumpet at an after-school practice Wednesday — have an extra spring in their step these days after learning that they will attend the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31 after all.
The $45,000 trip had been in doubt last month while the band struggled to come up with the final payment.
A local business, Lynchburg Music, presented the band with a check before practice that helped put them over the top, with assistance from others as well.
“The entire Lynchburg community has been wonderful as we have received so many donations and well wishes,” said Heritage band director Mike Hand in an e-mail Wednesday. “It’s great to see a community rally around providing such a wonderful opportunity for so many deserving students.”

As a former HHS band parent, I want to commend Lynchburg Music for their help and all others who contributed to the cause.
In my time at HHS, there were times when funds did not come easily.
Congrats to the band, and GO BIG ORANGE!
