A memorial garden, along with a bridge named after Campbell County deputy Jason Saunders, was dedicated at the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department in Rustburg on Monday.

Saunders was killed in a car wreck last year while traveling to provide backup during a police chase.

After the crowd disappeared from Monday’s dedication ceremony in honor of fallen Campbell County deputy Jason Saunders, his mother, Peggy Saunders, shared a moment with her son’s best friend, Altavista Police Officer and Fire Captain, J.B. Layne, as seen in the photo above.

Layne grew up with Saunders, going to school with him and serving on the fire department together.

I look forward to my next trip to Campbell County. I will be going by the Sheriff’s Office on that visit to see the wonderful memorial that had been built to remember Deputy Saunders. A memorial for any law enforcement officer is a testament for what they do every day. Everyone who cares for law enforcement needs to go by and see what people have raised money to do.
