Fire heavily damaged a Lynchburg College storage facility used to house sporting equipment Wednesday night, Lynchburg Fire Department officials said.

Battalion Chief J.P. Kilgore said fire crews received the call to the building on Faculty Drive off Lakeside Drive about 9:30 p.m.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within about 10 minutes, officials said.

Bob Driskill, director of the college’s campus security, said the building was used to house some practice equipment, as well as camping and canoeing gear.

Kilgore said he did not have an estimate of the monetary loss, and said the Lynchburg Fire Marshal’s Office as well as fire department investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze.
