A Lynchburg man charged with threatening the life of Jerry Falwell Jr. has been arrested again after sending threatening e-mails to a reporter for The News & Advance.

Berkley Carter Mills, 56, of the 600 block of Reusens Road, was charged Tuesday with stalking and making threats of death or bodily injury by letter.

He had been out on a $10,000 bond following his arrest last week on the charge of threatening Falwell via The News & Advance’s online comments. His bond was revoked following the new charges Tuesday and he has been jailed.

The reporter, Chris Dumond, who had requested that Mills stop e-mailing him, received an e-mail sent by Mills around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The e-mail included comments such as:

- “what do i have to do ,,elude to some possible -ability that you will be BOMB,,like twin towers”

- “thus i damn your exsistance or do i save it” and

- “now here me carefully,,if i was jesus,,and WWJD,,i would (obscenity deleted) kill the bastARD,,before he killed me w/his kisss…”

Mills said after the first arrest that he was a convicted felon and can’t legally own a firearm.

The stalking charge is a misdemeanor. The making threats of death or bodily injury by letter charge is a Class 6 felony, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

He is due in court Oct. 8 on the threats charge from the original incident. No court date has been scheduled yet for the two charges relating to The News & Advance.

LU GRAD, thanks for returning to us but don’t give up your “night job”, you will need it even more IF the drama queen/beauty queen gets IN. As for your slur, were you talking about a certain ethos here? Could you actually be a (shuddering) racist? Is that what they taught you at LU, or did you learn HATE from a well adjusted home life? Are you also so mean-spirited to think that ALL mentally ill folks could benefit more from being jailed? It is true that this man is clearly mentally challenged, he needs help not locked up like some animal!
And you sir are a typical LU, right - wing clone blindly following a doctrine that seethes in disdain for anyone that does not agree with them! Read the WORD for once and stop depending on the “SHOW-AND-TELL” antics that go on at LBC every Sunday morning!

Thank you for using your head, Daisy.  I know that you are no Falwell apologist, but the history of this guy, which is very easy to find with a simple search on his name, is ominous.  It seemed that too many people were overzealous in their anti-Falwell rants to look around for the story behind Mr. Mills, and why the Commonwealth’s Attorney is pursuing charges against him.

LU Grad written like a trus LU graduate! “you knows I be right”... did you sleep through english class or just tried praying it away?
Yeah Mills is a nutcase. Especially in light of the letter. Maybe Junior’s response had a little more reason behind it than we gave him credit for. But let’s face it, it was one nut calling another nut out.
I’m liberal and I’d bet I make more money than you!
Did they teach you the one verse you have to be able to say when you graduate from LU? “You want fries with that?“ or, is that when you get your Ph.D.?

Whoa!  He needs some serious help.  I thought the original charge was trumped up a bit and may not have been as bad as it was portrayed by the media, but this guy has proved me wrong.  He still has the right to free speech, but it seems like he has lost the ability to “walk the fine line”.  If you still think he is harmless, then you are as big a whacko as he is right now.

Where are all those who thought the Falwell Jr. threat was overplayed??? Huh? Where are you now????
Clearly this man is mentally disturbed.

freedom has said in comments on this site that he has been arrested, I believe, 19 times, including by the Secret Service. On another site, he said that he has battled mental illness for most of his life and that the local police are aware of his mental illness.

With that kind of history, any perceived threats should be taken seriously. If he actually did harm someone, all of you would be screaming that the police didn’t do their job.

I am not a Falwell or LU supporter at all, but I agree that the main reason freedom has gotten so much support from posters on this site is the hatred for all things Falwell. If this had involved anyone other than a Falwell, the response from posters probably would have been much different.

I’ve noticed here that with the liberal “peaceful” types they snicker and laugh when murderous threats are made to anyone who does not condone their views.  If those views had been against someone they admire (any liberal icon) they’d all be screaming like banshees.  We on the right or center are concerned when threats are made to anyone.  Truth hurts, oh well.

LU Grad: Why the invective against liberals and those on public assistance? That is utterly amazing to me. I thought Christ taught love, compassion, tolerance, acceptance. In fact, maybe you need to start with compassion for yourself. The anger you express is not a reflection of what is outside but what what you hold inside.

Sounds like he stepped over the line with the last mail. LU Grad… Love the spew.. Just remember that your two degrees from LU only provided you with the opportunity to teach bible school or cut my grass. Might be time to step off that pedestal and acknowledge your views are not also always 100% right.
