New ads praise Perriello for climate bill vote
The League of Conservation Voters is singling out Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th District, in a TV ad that thanks him for voting to pass an energy bill that has generated several letters of criticism on newspapers’ opinion pages.
The league’s ad in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market responds to another ad, by the National Republican Congressional Committee, that attacked Perriello for supporting the American Clean Energy Security Act.
Both the league and the NRCC directed their ads at Perriello and no one else.
Although several letter writers on editorial pages around the 5th District have criticized Perriello’s vote, the league joins at least two other groups that have aired ads supporting Perriello.
Americans United for Change, a labor-funded group, and VoteVets, a veterans’ advocacy group, have run TV ads thanking Perriello, along with about 50 other congress members who voted for the bill. The ads are edited to the congress members’ home districts.
The league’s spokesman, Jay Natoli, said it was running its ad in Perriello’s district “because the NRCC has made Rep. Perriello a focal point of their misleading attacks and we wanted to set the record straight.”
The ad says, in part, “The truth is, Tom Perriello is fighting to make America a global leader in clean energy,” and urges people to call his office in support.
Andy Sere, spokesman for the NRCC, said, “We are thrilled that a liberal Washington group is spotlighting Tom Perriello’s vote to kill jobs and send electricity rates skyrocketing.
“It’s a helpful reminder to central and Southside Virginians: When they needed a fighter for the middle-class, their congressman abandoned them in favor of radical environmentalists who care little for working families,” Sere said.

Jedihunter,
Your dissertation on compact fluorescent bulbs is important…carcinogenic heavy metals are not considered healthy to the public. But what exactly are you saying? I hope you are driving at the fact that government can’t solve the lead and mercury load that we consume while burning “less-clean” and “clean” coal alone. And then there is nuclear waste, what do you think the directions would be for cleaning your house after some spent U-dust hits the floor? Seems that if we want to save money in the long run and prevent Virginia from becoming New Jersey in terms of population density, pollution and falwell’s freeways a lot of people need to make some rapid changes in life style / consumption.
The folks that complain the most about the “liberals” and their energy conservation plans will be the first to ask where their hometown feeling went after we trash Virginia’s natural resources to keep our gut fat. -Tom Perriello , Thanks for a step in the right direction!
A story from the “We’re From the Government and We’re Here to Help” book of scary bedtime stories for adults:
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs – Creatures from the Mercury Lagoon
http://www.epa.gov/hg/spills/
Chapter I - If you use fluorescent bulbs, says EPA, you will need an evacuation plan in the event of a break. “Have people and pets leave the room, and don’t let anyone walk through the breakage area on their way out,“ says EPA’s directive. “Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes or more. Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system if you have one.“
Chapter II (I love this part) - When you can safely return, says EPA, start throwing away your belongings. “If clothing or bedding materials come in direct contact with broken glass or mercury-containing powder from inside the bulb that may stick to the fabric, the clothing or the bedding should be thrown away,“ says the directive.
Chapter III (Oops) - On the back of the fluorescent-bulb package—just below a warning about the mercury content – find the following words: “Made in China.“
Epilogue – Be prepared to have your room declared an environmental disaster area after the bulb breaks.
—And, of course, all Ivy League legislators are hereby excused from any lessons that might be learned, herein.
It’s funny that the league wasted money to run an ad in support of an incompetent representative. The blind praising the blind, liberals who support this bill are all lost. They have no concept of energy or the government.
Perriello ended his career by voting yes to that unconstitutional bull crap-and-tax.
retiree, you just don’t get it. These are your words; Because we believe that Christ died for our sins and we accept him as our savior.
People through out history have died for our sins. According to your thinking each and every one of them should be prayed thru to reach God. Since they all died for our sins, then they sit at the right hand of God as well.
End of story; cause one who thinks narrow believes narrow.
Mat I give you 2 suggestions. The first is to pray that God will interpret the Bible for you and second is to read the Bible from the front to the back, and then make up your mind. the Bible says we are made in his image. We are all his “children” We sometimes make “Gods” out of people like you and I and that is wrong. We are all equal in Gods eyes as long as we accept him as our Lord and Savior and live the life he wants us to. But please read the Bible and seek Gods understanding of it. I believe you will see the good in it and see where he wants you grow in his word.
Prove it that Jesus is more the son of god then say Jerry Falwell, Sr. was a son of god. Prove it that Jesus was more a son of god then you and I.
Most of my immediate family are gone, yet I am still here. Could it be I am a son of god that has not fulfilled his time on earth that was alloted from God.
Could it be that I am here to tell you that your thoughts are not pure and you worship a false idol.
The stupidity lies in the false ideology man has envisioned what God is.
I do believe in the 10 Commandments but I pray to God, Jesus is not on a cross, he is in Heaven on the Throne sitting at the right hand of God. I pray “in the name of Jesus” because he is the son of God that shed his blood on the cross for our sins. That is not being stupid. Nor do I look up to anyone that wants to destroy what this country was founded on. When people start removing “ In God We Trust” from our money, thats saying we have went away from what this country was founded on.That tell me this country is going down faster every day. We need to get back on the right path, and put God first in the decisions we make for each of us and for our goverment. If that is wrong then I will be wrong or stupid as far as this world is concern, but not in the eyes of God.
jedi, your a broken record. Try breaking some over your head for some common sense.
Better yet shove it.
Retiree, question? Do you believe in the Ten Commandments?
If you do. Do you believe in have no other God before me or Idols?
If you believe in the Ten Commandments don’t you realize you are breaking both those Commandments when praying to Jesus. Praying to Jesus on a cross, The Virgin Mary statue.
I call that type of praying hypocritical. In other words stupid.
to bigjimm,I’d like to know? Why do you say christians are stupid? because they don’t agree with your thinking? What is wrong with believing as a christian, and having hope for a better place to go to when you die than what we have in this world. Because we believe that Christ died for our sins and we accept him as our savior and try to live a life like we were taught through the Holy Bible does not mean we are stupid.
