A Lynchburg man died early Sunday morning after a shooting in the parking lot of the Super 8 motel at 3736 Candlers Mountain Road.

Lynchburg police responded to a call about the motel shooting at approximately 3:28 a.m., where they found Michael Colton Blanchard Jr., 24, who had been shot. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, but did not survive, said Capt. Todd Swisher of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Police are investigating the shooting and Sunday afternoon were still attempting to talk to witnesses, Swisher said. The incident is referred to by police as a crime, according to a news release from the division.
