Phil Vassar’s upcoming concert to benefit the Miller Home

Lynchburg native and country music star Phil Vassar’s upcoming hometown appearance will benefit the Miller Home.
“We are just thrilled,” said Stacy Garrett, executive director of the girls’ home on Westerly Drive. “We have been kind of working with Phil Vassar’s sister for the past couple years. We got word just before Christmas that this was definitely a go.”
Vassar is scheduled to play in the Hill City at E.C. Glass High School on Friday, March 27. He and his band will take the stage at 7 p.m. and perform songs from his current album, “Prayer of a Common Man,” as well as some of his greatest hits, like “Just Another Day in Paradise,” “Carlene” and “In A Real Love.”
The Brookville High School grad moved to Nashville in 1987.
Garrett said the Miller Home formed a relationship with Vassar’s family when his sister took a tour of the home about two years ago.
“We just think it’s a really wonderful thing,” Garrett said. “Since we don’t take state or federal money, it’s an exciting surprise to us.”
In the coming weeks, Garrett hopes to set goals for how much the concert will raise. Currently, that has not been calculated, she said Monday.
“He’s a great Lynchburg guy,” she said of Vassar.
All seats for the upcoming show are reserved and range in price from $25 to $30.
“It was important to me to keep the ticket prices low so everyone could afford to come out,” Vassar said recently.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at http://www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (434) 846-8100.
Vassar decided it was time for another concert here when he was in the Hill City last spring, shooting footage for a “Great American Country” special.
“I love coming home,” he said recently. “When we were filming down by the river, it hit me that I haven’t played in Lynchburg in a really long time. I wanted to come back and do that. I want to come home and play for all my friends.”
