River Ridge mall event promotes youth safety

The 11th annual for Kids Sake Safety Day will be held at River Ridge mall on Sept. 19.

This event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is held annually at the beginning of school to promote youth safety in Central Virginia. It is coordinated by Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Lynchburg Police Department, Lynchburg Fire Department, Lynchburg City Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.

Displays will include police cars, fire trucks, McGruff the crime dog, DUI golf cart simulators and K-9 demonstrations.

There will be free T-shirts for the first 300 kids at the event. There also will be numerous handouts and give-away safety items.
