What brought him to Lynchburg: Gillette first moved to Lynchburg in 1990 to take teaching jobs at both Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He quit teaching in 1997 to get into consulting full-time.
Tom Shahady

Age: 46
Job: environmental science professor, Lynchburg College
Family: married with two sons, ages 18 and 8, and one daughter, age 15
Hails from: Chapel Hill, N.C.
What brought him to Lynchburg: Shahady moved to Lynchburg in 2000 to accept a teaching position at Lynchburg College. Prior to that, he worked at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C., where in addition to teaching he also coached football.

What brought him to Lynchburg: Perrow was born in Amherst County but spent most of his school years living in Lynchburg, where he graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1992. He returned to the city after college to begin his career in engineering.

What brought her to Lynchburg: Waller moved to Lynchburg in 1963 to teach at E.C. Glass High School. This was the second job of her career — the first was at William Campbell High School in Campbell County, where she taught for two years.
