Perriello betrrayed district in energy vote
I was very disappointed in Rep. Tom Perriello’s betrayal of the people in the Fifth District by casting a vote that will raise everyone’s energy costs, send production jobs overseas and provide more federal control over our lives. With our adopting these restrictions on industry in the face of a recession and trade deficit with non-conforming countries is beyond comprehension. He and his colleagues could not have designed a better way to destroy our country.
I watched the debate about HR 2454 on C-SPAN. Congress’ betrayal of trust has made June 26 a day of mourning for America.
I was particularly troubled in the stance taken against the common-sense proposal by Rep. Randy Forbes of Virginia, which would have done more to protect the environment by all accounts with no raising of taxes than the massive power grab Perriello supported. It provided incentives for clean technology, provided for drilling so that we could be energy-independent, provided for the use of solar, wind, hydro and nuclear generation of energy to support our industries.
The fact that much of the bill was unread by anyone as the 309-page amendment was submitted at 3:09 a.m. and not even integrated for review while the vote was being cast is an abomination to what this country once stood for. Yes, I know that Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a plane to catch, but for heaven’s sake, couldn’t the vote be delayed until everyone could read it and discuss it with their constituents?
Representatives who represent their districts as well as the people of the United States, not just the House political leadership, should at least know what you are voting for. There is no way you, or anyone else could. Blindly following the leadership is a true sign of weakness.
One representative, speaking against the bill, said this is a choice between liberty and tyranny. Sadly, unlike the great patriot Patrick Henry, who is buried a short distance from my home and who chose liberty, Rep. Perriello did not.

Not newsworthy
I was really shocked to see the June 26 front page of The News & Advance with nothing but the death of Michael Jackson. I don’t believe you would have put that much on the front page if someone really important had died.
Surely there were more important stories for the front page. Not only was it on the front page for one day — but two. Think about what is really newsworthy for the front page.

Reader Reactions
To the person who wrote an editorial on Thursday, July 2 that they were shocked about the News & Advance giving the death of Michael Jackson front page, I am shocked at her comment. She actually said “I don’t believe you would have put that much on the front page, if someone really important had died”. Michael Jackson was important to billions of people all over the world. Whether you like him or not, everyone’s life is important. I’m sure that many papers all over the world put this sad story on the front page. Thank you to the News and Advance for giving such great coverage on an individual who deserved it and will be greatly missed.
The Perriello sell-out:

From your perspective Mr.johnf, granted, it probably seems like that, but it’s far from true.
There were 8 of us. Goodlatte was the first to leave. The laughter went on for the rest of the night. It’s been years, but, when ever I see the people that were there someone always goes….. “Remember Goodlatte?“..... and it starts all over again. (I’m not kidding)
What a thrill it must have been for Congressman Goodlatte to sit next to the smartest man that ever lived. Humble too.
maybe he was trying to communicate on your level.
From talking to him and observing his eating habits…. I’m not sure he CAN read.
He may be dumb as a stump pewty, but at least he did not vote for a bill that he didn’t have time to read.
Mr. Timnan,
Have you ever sat down for dinner next to Mr. Goodlatte and actually talked to him. I have and the guy is as dumb as a turnip. It was embarrassing.
Do yourself a favor and find out (ask him) just what his legal specialty was before he “inherited” his Republican seat in DC. You are in for a real treat.
Perriello showed fortitude in voting for a bill, the contents of which he could not have know, but Goodlatte is accused of being stupid for voting against it.
Is this world upside down or what?

Question - Who was the first liberal Democrat?
Answer -Christopher Columbus. He left not knowing where he was going, got there not knowing where he was, left there not knowing where he’d been and did it all on borrowed money
Well I finally stopped laughing long enough to say this.
The ridicule this pseudo-intelectual hoped to heap upon democrats, failed under the weight of this poster’s usual stupidity.
Tell me something genius, had it not been for Christopher Columbus just exactly where do you think you would be today? Do you think you got here through a vacume and you’re not benefitting from the one you are ridiculing?
Just like you’ve benefitted your whole life from the lberal Democrats legislations ranging from child labor laws, to clean air acts.
And guess what genious… who gets the most benefits from Affirmative action from the liberal democrats?
White women.
Come on fool, lets hear you ridicule white women.
This guy is more fun than a whole circus.
