Don’t criticize using votes for power
I disagree with Ken McBride’s letter supporting Bill Blackwell’s claim that Jerry Falwell and Liberty University were hypocrites because they exercised their “democratic” right to vote their conscience for issues and persons in which they believe.
That’s what the power of the vote is. Do not political parties and their followers vote that way? The whole thing works that way. Is that being hypocritical? Quit calling people negative names for exercising their constitutional right.
By the way, for your edification, those religions you mentioned (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) are not mythical. They have historical figures, evidences, and doctrines that verify their existence. Hopefully the majority of those who read The News & Advance learn about these types of critics in our community.

Letter revealed agenda
Thanks for publishing Ken McBride’s Dec. 19 letter. McBride writes: “The majority of Americans may yet learn that Christian fundamentalists do not even believe in ‘democracy,’ but only as a means to achieve their ultimate goal of a totalitarianism under their God in the tradition of the mythical desert religions of death: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.”
So, we now “know” that Christian fundamentalists do not believe in democracy and have a goal of a “totalitarianism under their God.”
Do you have a point to make or an axe to grind with a very obvious agenda? If you don’t like Christian fundamentalists and others who believe in religion, just say so. You paint with a very broad brush with your words and I doubt if you have made the desired point to anyone but yourself and a few others in our community. The words of some who wish to disparage others may be loud, but are they true and of any worth?

Snow is stimulus
As we are told daily by all the news outlets, we are still in quite a bad recesion and the “good days” are still as ways off yet. However the mere mention of snow and whammo, the stores are packed, everything you can imagine is all of a sudden a “must have” for most everyone.
I can’t figure out why the big need for bread and milk, and the long gas lines to buy gas, when most will not even attempt to venture out if we get the slightest amount of snow.
Friday, before the snow fell, was ten times worse then Black Friday for driving and shopping. Retailers raked in some bucks.
So who needs stimulus? We got it already and it was a big white blanket that’s absolutely wonderful. Let it snow.

Wither the weather?
Would someone please let Al Gore know that we had 11 inches (and counting) of global warming in our driveway Saturday morning?

Reader Reactions
WTH, is there any doubt whether Herr Doctor would be taking the hemlock or administering it?
Wassa matter, doctorbeck? The two sentences before your excision kinda show where your brain had a hiccup. The sentence itself acknowledges the impropriety (and leaves open the possibility of illegality); the point was that Thuglicans make bleep up! (See previous comment.)
We’re not all as thick as you.
BTW, no wonder you’re up a creek with g-d. There ain’t much worth trustin’ in your book.
Oh, something else. Don’t you think entrapment for bad PR is unethical, professor?
Ho, Ho, Ho, johnfi. That is hilarious stuff. Yes sir, illegal decisions were made. It’s hilarious to listen to those amateur impersonators of pimps and prostitutes - “Say Sally [with apologies to all other Sally’s] you are a performing artist, aren’t you? Yeah, I think that’s the ticket!“
Ho, ho, ho!!! What mirth and good cheer!
And then, OMG, the NYTimes indicts ACORN ... or maybe not:
Acorn’s national spokesman, Scott Levenson, called the indictments “political grandstanding” by Mr. Miller and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, both Democrats.
Mr. Levenson said Acorn had fired both employees and has cooperated with investigators.
“This is in complete violation of Acorn national policy, and to indict us is a clear case of blaming the victim,” Mr. Levenson said. “We had an errant employee who violated our policy and he was ordered to stop.”
...
Yet on Monday, Nevada Republicans said they doubted Acorn’s activity had any impact on the outcome of the 2008 election in Nevada. Mr. Obama won the state by 12 percentage points.
Those devilish ACORNians. Thank g-d the evil are so stupid. (That’s sarcasm!)
Oh. And then there’s this: Court Ruling Vindicates Grayson’s Argument That The ACORN Funding Ban Is Unconstitutional
“an ACORN employee “ are you serious? As in one and only one. An isolated incident? Really, you actually believe that?
Do yourself a favor and read this list of thirty-eight cases.
http://www.rottenacorn.com/activityMap.html
There may have been an ACORN employee who should have been, and was, fired. Why can’t you be fair? A former Liberty University teacher is currently charged with a sex crime against a student. Several years ago a LU employee was convicted for having oral sex with a 16 year old. Would you like to see LU judged by these two incidents? Would you like to see people cut off their funding to LU because of those incidents?
Fortunately, most people have the intelligence to recognize that LU does good (even if they do not agree with the theology taught there). The same standard should apply to ACORN.
WOW!
Indian Jones, That is hard to believe! The Congressional Research Service, controlled by democrats, has determined that ACORN, controlled by democrats, didn’t help out congress, controlled by democrats?
ACORN employees were helping out the ‘pimp’ and ‘hooker’ set up a business for underage ‘hookers’ brought in from another country illegally. If that didn’t break any laws, I would like for you to tell me what is?
“The report found there were no instances of individuals who were registered to vote improperly by ACORN who attempted to vote at the polls.“
So it is OK to register as long as they don’t get caught trying to vote?
ACORN is a fraud, a scam, and a breeding ground for corruption. Some people can see it, and others like to turn a blind eye.
If you would like to read a New York Times article about ACORN employees charged with for voter fraud look here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/05/us/05acorn.html
If you would like to see ACORN employees giving advice on breaking the law look here.
http://www.breitbart.tv/shock-undercover-video-shows-acorn-workers-advising-pimp-prostitute-to-avoid-law/
A new report by the Congressional Research Service has determined the anti-poverty group ACORN hasn’t violated any federal regulations in the last five years and that recently enacted federal legislation to prohibit funding to ACORN raises significant constitutional concerns. Earlier this year, Congress voted to strip ACORN of all federal funding after conservative activists released videos of an undercover sting operation that allegedly showed ACORN workers offering advice to a pimp and prostitute. ACORN has long been a target of right-wing scorn for its work helping poor people fight foreclosures, fix tax problems, and register to vote. For years Republicans have claimed that ACORN helps Democrats steal elections by fraudulently registering voters. But the new Congressional Research Service report also dispels this myth. The report found there were no instances of individuals who were registered to vote improperly by ACORN who attempted to vote at the polls.
Care to call out our resident professor for his hypocritical sarcasm? -
I think it is a shame that a valuable community organization was falsely accused. I feel for President Obama belonging, advising and funding with his own campaign dollars to such an upstanding organization. I will march on the roundabout immediately. Will other non-racist like minded people join me?
I Pretty much stay in the chat room throughout the day. FYI
