Officials look at public safety, weigh recommendations of firm after failure to meet response times
About a year ago, Campbell County enlisted the aid of public safety consulting firm TriData in an effort to assess and revamp its public safety system. Thursday night, public safety officials from across the county held their last meeting with TriData representatives and began the transition toward implementing the firm’s recommended changes.

Campbell to purchase armory building, transfer to Altavista

Altavista grounds Gretna on Short’s no-hit, 13-strikeout gem
ALTAVISTA — Dogwood District Player and Pitcher of the Year Brooke Short pitched a perfect game and struck out 13 as Altavista swept both the district regular season and tournament titles with a 10-0 victory over defending tournament champion Gretna on Friday.
Short was downright dominant after being rocked two Wednesdays ago against the Hawks in both teams’ regular-season finale. Gretna (14-6) got the ball out of the infield once against the southpaw — a first inning fly ball off the bat of Nichole Mills — and put the ball in play another seven times.

Generals foil Colonels in last at-bat at Altavista Invitational
ALTAVISTA — For the coin toss to determine the home team for Monday’s Altavista Spring Break Tournament game against the Colonels, William Campbell coach Andy Haga deferred to leadoff hitter Baron Adams, the Generals’ starting quarterback and team captain in football.
His experience in such matters paid off as he correctly guessed “heads,” taking the home field advantage away from Altavista, and William Campbell rallied for the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 victory.
“The coin flip got us,” Colonels coach Jason Kilbourne said. “(Haga) was going to call ‘tails.‘”
