Department of Environmental Quality report shows E. coli prevalent in Central Va. waterways
A recently released state water quality report designates 45 Lynchburg area streams and lakes as impaired — most because they contain too much E. coli. The report adds more than 1,600 miles of streams and rivers throughout the state to the impaired list, but that’s mostly because more waterways — 16,191 miles, or 31 percent, of all state waters — were assessed.

Roanoke man dies in logging accident
A logging accident killed a man in western Bedford County on Friday morning. Bedford County Sherriff’s Captain Kevin Adams said 69-year-old Haden Dunbar of Roanoke died when the skidder he was operating rolled down an embankment. A skidder is a vehicle used for cutting trees.
