Rigler catches Morris with late kick at JF Invitational
FOREST — Like a cat stalking its prey, Altavista senior cross country runner Andrew Rigler crept up on Jefferson Forest’s Josh Morris and Hidden Valley’s Bryan Lewis before pouncing past them both in the last mile of Saturday’s Runnin’ with the Wolves Rocktoberfest varsity boys race, run on a new 3.1-mile course at Wolf Branch Farm.
Lancers, Rose roll over Cavaliers
AMHERST — Amherst proved to be the better study Friday night, scoring early and often in its 35-6 win over Jefferson Forest at home.
The Lancers (6-1, 2-1) produced on all but one possession while holding top running back Desmond Goode and the Cavaliers to four first downs and 81 yards of offense in the first half.

“It gave me a heart attack,” Red Devils middle hitter Katie Tyree said after she and her teammates overcame a two-game deficit to stage a 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 16-14 triumph.

Brookville bulls its way past JF in Seminole showdown
FOREST — Brookville was leading Jefferson 10-7 in a key Seminole District football game with just over four minutes to play when the Bees’ star quarterback finally broke loose from the Cavaliers’ defense.
Logan Thomas burst through the line untouched on an option play and sprinted straight up the middle of the field and through Jefferson Forest’s secondary for a 57-yard touchdown that put Brookville up 17-7 en route to a 19-7 triumph.

JF’s Goode is better than good
Jefferson Forest is known for playing a physical brand of football. This year, senior running back Desmond Goode, one of the Cavaliers’ smallest players, has been shouldering the bulk of the offensive load.

JF shuts out E.C. Glass in Black and Blue Bowl
Jefferson Forest’s defense made sure the Black and Blue Bowl lived up to its name Thursday night at City Stadium.
The Cavaliers’ defense dominated E.C. Glass allowing the Hilltoppers just 56 yards of total offense and just two first downs as JF improved to 3-0 with a 20-0 victory.

Jefferson Forest rocks Rockbridge
As if the unbearable humidity wasn’t enough to make Rockbridge’s game against Jefferson Forest miserable, the Cavaliers made sure the Wildcats knew they were going to be in for a long Friday night on the first play.
Rockbridge wide receiver JaQwan Biggs came in motion across the formation and took a handoff from quarterback Tyler Staton.
When Biggs saw that he couldn’t get to the sideline, he turned up field where he was met with a crushing blow from Forest linebacker Tyler Rosser.
“You always say the first play of the game is going to indicative of how the game is going to go,” Cavaliers coach Don Rice said. “There were some hits out there tonight.”
The Wildcats seemed in a fog the rest of the night and Jefferson Forest rumbled to a 40-6 victory.

JF expects tight battle with Rockbridge
A year ago, Jefferson Forest’s football team edged Rockbridge 7-6 in a defensive-oriented standoff in Lexington.
Tonight, when the Cavaliers play host to the 2006 Group AA, Division 3 state runner-up Wildcats at 7:30, the rematch could just as easily turn into an offensive slugfest.
