If homecoming didn’t provide enough pageantry for Brookville’s football game against Liberty, guest appearances by Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer and offensive coordinator Bryan Stinespring added to the festival atmosphere before a near-capacity crowd on Friday night.

If Liberty High’s football team is to advance to the Group AA, Division 3, state playoffs for the first time in three years, it will most likely have to beat Brookville, the Seminole District favorite and top-ranked AA team in the state.

BEDFORD — Three Heritage turnovers in a five-minute period spanning the third and fourth quarters turned the tide in Liberty’s favor in a Seminole District football showdown Friday night.

A fourth four minutes later — Boo Payne’s interception returned 60 yards for a touchdown — put the Minutemen in complete control and they went on to pummel the Pioneers 32-14, payback for a 35-0 loss last fall.

MONETA — The Bedford County showdown between Liberty and Staunton River had razzle-dazzle and then drizzle-fizzle as the Minutemen crushed the Golden Eagles, 40-14.
