Daily Bread organizes three concerts to raise money
With donations down and demand for meals increasing, a local soup kitchen is going beyond its typical fundraising methods by organizing a piano concert.
Milwaukee Iron auctioned off
Randy Simpson recently closed Milwaukee Iron, his Lynchburg machine shop known around the nation for its custom Harley-style choppers, due to the recession. On Thursday, North Carolina-based Asset Sales Inc. auctioned the company’s building and equipment.
Meals on Wheels still turning after 35 years
Meals on Wheels Inc. of the Greater Lynchburg Area will mark 35 years of service to the community with an anniversary celebration Sept. 20.

Appomattox man gets three months in wreck
BEDFORD — An Appomattox man was sentenced to three months in jail Wednesday morning after pleading guilty to driving drunk in a May wreck that injured a Lynchburg prosecutor and killed her dog.
First shot in the groin, now Lynchburg man faces charges
Orlando DeSean Harvey, 24, was found in the 1700 block of Floyd Street when the Lynchburg Police Department responded to a report of a shooting just before 6 p.m. on Aug. 18.
Lynchburg police investigating prescription fraud
Police are investigating what they believe to be prescription fraud at the Target pharmacy on Wards Road early Sunday afternoon.
Replacement Lynchburg trash decals available
Lynchburg is reminding residents to purchase new trash cart decals. All current decals expire Sept. 30. Replacements will be available for purchase in September and October for $40 (32-gallon cart) and $80 (64-gallon cart).

Liberty’s Snowflex opening to be grand
In a stunt that could come straight from a James Bond movie, professional skydiver Jim McCormick will parachute jump from an airplane over Candlers Mountain on Saturday, and, if all goes as planned, land on Liberty University’s Snowflex ski slope.

YMCA aims to start kids off right
