JF shuts out SR in Seminole girls soccer title rematch
AMHERST — After missing multiple one-on-one opportunities with Staunton River goalkeeper Moira Guzi, Jefferson Forest finally slipped one past the stingy sophomore midway through the second half of Friday’s Seminole District girls soccer tournament final.
Sophomore forward Emilee McDaniel sent a long ball from the left side toward the center of the goalie box. The ball skidded past Guzi and sophomore midfielder Courtney Zongrone was there to finish it off on the goal line for the game’s only score.

SR girls upset Harrisonburg, reach Region III, Division 3 final
For the first time since 1993, Staunton River’s girls basketball team will play in a state basketball tournament.
Laquaksha Robinson had 15 points and 12 rebounds and sister Shaniesha Robinson added 14 points and eight boards to lead the Golden Eagles past Harrisonburg 52-48 in the Region III, Division 4 semifinals Friday night at Spotswood High School.

Golden Eagles girls complete three-game sweep of Bees
After ending Brookville’s four-year reign as Seminole District regular-season champions, Staunton River’s girls basketball team snapped the Bees’ string of district tournament titles at four with a dramatic 43-41 triumph Friday night in the first game of a girls-boys championship doubleheader in The Hive.

Staunton River’s press shuts down JF girls
Playing on the road in the Seminole District is never easy.
Factor in the emotions that accompany Senior Night and the task becomes doubly difficult.
Despite the numerous roadblocks that the Staunton River Golden Eagles (18-3) faced, they hurdled all of them on their way to a 38-31 victory over Jefferson Forest, putting the finishing touches on a 12-0 district record in the process.

Robinson sisters have Golden Eagles flying high
When Kelly Jackson went down with an ankle injury on Dec. 17, Staunton River coach Kim Jones pulled up Shaniesha Robinson from the JV squad to play in the post.
Little did she know the freshman center would emerge as the Golden Eagles’ leading scorer and second-leading rebounder coming off the bench, trailing only older sister Laquaksha Robinson, a junior forward.

Staunton River girls complete OT sweep of Brookville
Staunton River’s girls basketball team used full-court pressure to force plenty of turnovers and kept Brookville at bay for the second time this season in overtime, winning Thursday’s Seminole District rematch 39-32 in its new gym in Moneta, giving their fans more than their money’s worth.
