Prior to Al Groh’s Wednesday teleconference, Virginia announced that redshirt freshman linebacker J’Courtney Williams is no longer a member of the team.

“J’Courtney’s time here has unfortunately been marked by issues which fall below the line of what is acceptable to us,” Groh said in a release. “Therefore, he will no longer be a member of our program.”

Williams was arrested Monday on charges of credit card theft and credit card fraud after a student reported that his wallet had been stolen at Virginia’s Aquatics and Fitness Center. The theft charge is a felony.

It was Williams’ second run-in with the law in 2008. In February, he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. That case was continued until next year.

The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Williams, one of the top recruits in UVa’s 2007 class out of Danville via Christchurch School, never played a down for the Cavaliers.
