Chris Harmon scored his 1,000th career point as Liberty beat Rustburg 72-41 Thursday night to set up a showdown with Brookville tonight with first place in the Seminole District on the line.

Harmon scored 12 points as Liberty (17-5, 10-2 Seminole) outscored the Red Devils 42-15 in the second half to turn a tight game into a rout.

“It’s big,” Liberty coach Jeff Monroe said. “The kid has had a heck of a three-year career. He’s been one of our leaders and one of the top players in the district.

“It’s a great achievement for a kid who has really put his heart into basketball these past three years.”

Ryan Nichols led the Minutemen with 17 points. Anthony Reynolds added 11.

Antoine Davis scored 15 to lead Rustburg (12-8, 6-6).

Brookville won both regular-season meetings with Liberty. The winner of tonight’s game wraps up the Seminole’s top seed for the upcoming Region III tournament.

“All the games we’ve played with them the past two years have been real tight,” Monroe said. “We’ve got to somehow slow down Logan (Thomas) and contain the rest of them. I’m glad we’ve got the opportunity to play them one more time.”
