Salem senior wide receiver Stephen Barnette had 5 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns in Salem’s 42-0 win over previously undefeated Cave Spring. He also had an 88 yard interception return for a touchdown in the Spartans win.

GW-Danville junior running back DeVaughn Benion rushed for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns on 11 carries in the Eagles’ 31-0 rout of Patrick Henry in the Western Valley District opener for both teams.

Kirby Anderson, Amherst junior quarterback, completed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Rose, ran for a 42-yard score and returned an interception 60 yards for a third score in the 6-0 Lancers’ 58-14 victory over Bassett.
