VES picks up first win, LCA stomps FUMA

VES 40, Covenant 32

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Martin Owens’ second touchdown catch of the night lifted the Bishops to their first win of the season.

VES quarterback Dan Alexander lit up Covenant’s secondary, completing 23 of 37 attempts for 276 yards and four touchdowns. His 11-yard TD pass to Zach Jones in the second quarter ignited 26-point run for the Bishops (1-5). During the run, Tyler Stevens posted a 3-yard TD run, Owens pulled in a 9-yard scoring strike from Alexander and Nathaniel Moore returned an interception 50 yards for a TD.

Alexander’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Graham in the fourth quarter tied the score, setting up Owens’ game-winner later in the period.

LCA 28, Fork Union 0

Desmond Rice ran for three touchdowns and Mike Rocco threw for another as the Bulldogs blanked the Blue Devils.

LCA (7-1) rolled up 369 yards in total offense compared to 118 for Fork Union (6-2). Rice finished with 192 yards on 26 carries and had touchdown runs of 14, 8 and 4. Rocco completed 12 of 20 attempts, including an 11-yard TD pass to Scott Hyland in the second quarter.
